Transitions and AOA Team Up to Deliver Hispanic Education and Resources

Hispanic Vision Initiative Announced at Optometry's Meeting™

The American Optometric Association (AOA) and Transitions are joining forces to deliver new communications tools and resources to help you better meet the needs of your Hispanic patients.

The AOA launched its "Hispanic Vision Initiative" during the annual Optometry's Meeting™ and announced plans for professional and public education, supported by Transitions. Education specifically designed for optometrists will provide insights into better understanding and accommodating the cultural differences and risk factors pertaining to Hispanic patients.

Additionally, the AOA is developing a new Spanish section on its Web site, with translations in key public information areas being supported by a grant through the Transitions Partners in Education™ program.

To support the initiative on an ongoing basis, the AOA has assembled a project team dedicated to helping optometrists better serve the growing Hispanic market. To guide the initiative, the AOA also has announced plans to release a patient survey, to be administered by optometrists, that will help provide insights into the needs relative to serving Hispanic patients.

Help Your Patients "Turn Eyeglasses Into My Glasses"

Enhanced Eyeglass Guide 2.0 Supports Eyecare Professionals

Discussing eyewear options with your patients has never been easier! The enhanced Eyeglass Guide 2.0 will arm your patients with the latest information on lens and frame styles, while using personal customization for an individual fit - turning eyeglasses into my glasses.

Still found at www.EyeglassGuide.com, the updated site allows users to visually build a pair of eyeglasses - including lenses and frames - based on answers to a series of lifestyle questions. Lens recommendations come first and can include Transitions® lenses, progressives, anti-reflective coatings or high-index materials to suit each patient's everyday routine. After lenses are selected, the guide also provides frame-selection factors, such as face shape and color preferences. Patients are encouraged to print out the suggestions to bring to their next appointment.

On the site you will also find a link to the Eyeglass Guide you can add to your own site. Linking to the Eyeglass Guide will instantly enhance your Web site's content and will allow your patients to start thinking about their eyewear options prior to their next appointment!

New Posters Shed Light on Ocular Effects of Diabetes

Posters Support Clinical Paper, Healthy Sight Counseling: Diabetes and the Eye

Transitions is now offering new tools to help you educate patients about the effects diabetes can have on long-term eye health and everyday quality of vision.

These new public education posters, available through the Transitions Partners in Education™ program, can help spark dialogue on the steps your patients can take to preserve and optimize their vision for the future. One poster is targeted specifically toward parents, and elevates awareness of the importance of proper eye care and eyewear for children with diabetes. The other poster highlights the increased chance for diabetics to suffer from eye damage from the sun as a result of the disease.

The posters complement Transitions Optical's existing UV-education materials and new clinical paper, Healthy Sight Counseling: Diabetes and the Eye, which provides insights into the link between diabetes and several eye diseases. For copies of the posters or paper, call Transitions Customer Service at (800) 848-1506.
